Shortly after moving to California in the late '80s, I volunteered with a nonprofit organization who served terminally ill patients in Los Angeles. I was inherently moved by their consistent ability to maintain emotional and spiritual roundedness through loss and tragedy. When I asked how their day was, they didn’t dwell on their diagnosis—they spoke of the beauty of life. They described the glistening waves at the beach, the sound of birds chirping, the way the sunlight hit the trees. Though they were facing the end of life, they were more alive and present than most healthy people I knew. This experience permanently shifted my perspective on what happiness truly means.
I realized that happiness isn’t about perfect circumstances—it’s about intentional awareness and choice. There are people walking around perfectly well who see nothing good around them. And there are others, even in the most difficult moments, who find light and beauty everywhere. That understanding shaped my mission: to help others see a better light.
Over the years, I’ve inspired people through writing, workshops, and one-on-one conversations—helping them transform their outlook and elevate their lives with more hope, joy, and purpose.
To deepen my ability to guide others, I became a certified coach in the Science of Happiness through the University of California, Berkeley. That education, along with my BA in Languages from John Carroll University, gave me powerful, research-based tools to help people from different cultures and backgrounds move from fear and stagnation to intentional, joyful living.
